When it comes to one of the most distinctive sounds in what we call today’s Smoothjazz genre, Dean James comes to mind front and center. The sultry, soulful & smooth sound of his Alto & Soprano sax continues to leave a lasting impression for his most devoted as well as new listeners. James NEW single "Kings & Queens" is soon to debut on the airwaves July 4th 2025. A song written by fellow Smoothjazz guitarist Joel Del Rosario features James fiery alto sax that will sure to reach the masses drawing his audience closer while guaranteed to pull at their heartstrings. 

Born & raised in the City by the Bay, at the age of 15, James developed his love for music listening to musicians who graced the radio well before Smoothjazz came to existence. Grover Washington Jr., Ronnie Laws & David Sanborn played an intricate part in James approach to contemporary jazz but was also influenced by musicians such as Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Miles Davis.

Pursuing his passion, James attended the Berklee College of music to further his  music education where he received his formal training as well as jazz & classical studies. After attending Berklee, James moved to Los Angeles in hopes of contributing his talents as a sideman and becoming a part of the music community. James has performed with numerous Artists within the Gospel and R&B arena before coming to his own, signing with Ichiban Records as a solo Artist (1995). James, known for his hit single "Market Street" is currently celebrating its 28 years on the Smoothjazz airwaves.

The NEW single "Kings & Queens" delivers a smooth, up-tempo groove that keeps you mesmerized from beginning to end. A hook that keeps you listening and this song also displays an intense sax and guitar clarity that will make you press the repeat button..

"Kings & Queens " is the first of many arrangements from James forthcoming project “Arabesque”. It features different elements including jazz, R&B, Latin-jazz & funk to attract fans, new and old. All compositions written, arranged and produced by James with the exception of multi-talented guitarist, writer, producer  Joel Del Rosario to help kick things off.
